United Nations Secretary General's representative to Iraq, Pakistan's Ambassador to United States, Ashraf Jahangir Qazi, has denounced the killing of two Pakistanis in Iraq.

"This is a very gruesome, ferocious murder," Qazi told Voice of America (VoA), monitored here on Saturday.

He said these men had gone to Iraq for employment and Pakistan was a friendly country to Iraq.

Pakistan had not done anything objectionable, he said, adding this incident was a tragedy for Pakistan and the entire Muslim world.

He said as manifested by this gruesome incident, the situation in Iraq was very serious. The methods used by the terrorists in the past were not used in this case, he said.

"This is a very brutal act which shows that situation is very difficult and complicated," he said.

Qazi said it would be right to say that the United Nations would have to play an important and leading role in Iraq without which it would be difficult for Iraqi people to establish an elected government by the end of 2005.
